A family home built on a South east facing urban site overlooking a small
rural enclave and oasis and the eastern end of Cox’s creek all in the midst
of surrounding and existing Herne Bay residences. The owner / builder and his
partner and young son wanted a house to grow together in, with a large and
high barrier wall at the entry to separate public from the private rear yard
and garden. The design intention was to bring as much natural light to the
interior of the home as is possible with a high entry atrium that allowed both
connection of main living spaces to upper floor bedrooms and the lower
service spaces and garage to the west. The volumes created were to
enhance the experience of entering and slowly unearthing the excitement
of the spaces and views beyond.
